Stop the breakout.

Experiencing post-wax breakout? We’ll spill the tea on what’s causing them and how to chill them out.

Histamine Response: Waxing can give your hair follicles a little wake-up call, which might trigger a histamine response. Don’t panic! This short-lived reaction usually lasts just 24-48 hours and can come with symptoms like tiny pustules, hives, itchiness, and redness. Histamines are compounds that hang out in your body’s immune and nervous systems, acting as your body’s cheerleader, stepping up when your skin experiences a little trauma (waxing is a superficial trauma). They boost blood flow, bringing a bit of excitement to the area.

Purging: Ever heard of skin “purging”? It’s your skin’s way of saying, “I’m cleaning house!” After waxing, this temporary reaction speeds up your skin’s cell turnover. Think of it as an intense exfoliation that helps clear out clogged pores, leading to some extra pustules, blackheads, and flakiness. It’s all part of the journey to glowing skin.

Allergic Reaction: Some waxing products contain ingredients like pine rosin, essential oils, copolymers, or beeswax that could trigger allergic reactions for those with sensitivities. Always good to inform your esthetician of any known allergies.

Now, you’re probably wondering, “How can I reduce these breakouts?” It all starts with a solid skincare routine! Your goal should be to exfoliate and keep your skin hydrated. And remember, less is more! Stick to one or two products after waxing—using too many can overstimulate your skin and create more chaos than calm.

We recommend using Maystar’s Body Peel to exfoliate and Maystar’s Rosewater Tonic or Maystar’s Oil Balancing Lotion to hydrate and soothe. Let’s not forget that consistency is key and patience is imperative.
